The Munsters The Munsters

It's alive! The Munsters pilot is alive (at NBC)!

The network has green-lighted a reinvention of the classic monster family comedy The Munsters, it was announced Wednesday.

Exclusive: The Munsters back in development at NBC

Bryan Fuller, the quirky-macabre mastermind behind Pushing Daisies and Dead Like Me, will write and executive-produce the reboot as a one-hour drama with "spectacular" visuals. As previously reported, the new show will be edgier and darker, although the core family unit at 1313 Mockingbird Lane will stay the same.

In the original series, which ran from 1964-1966, patriarch Herman Munster (Fred Gwynne) was married to vampiress Lily (Yvonne De Carlo) and also lived with son Eddie (Butch Patrick), the relatively average Marilyn (Pat Priest) and Grampa (Al Lewis). The Munsters inspired several made-for-TV movies and a spin-off, The Munsters Today.

Is The Munsters reboot a good idea? Who would you like to see cast as the iconic characters?
