The Voice of America, based on the original series The Voice of Holland, will feature four coaches with careers in the music industry. The twist comes in the audition round: The coaches will select the contestants, but will have their backs turned during the performances so only the singers' voices are evaluated. If the coaches like the talent, each will have to option to hit a button moving the contestant to the next round and claiming him or her as a member of the coach's team.
The teams will then compete against one another, while America singles out the winner.
NBC is eager to get the series on the air, setting the show to debut well before Simon Cowell's X Factor premieres next fall. "It's a bold move, it shows our confidence," NBC's alternative chief Paul Telegedy told the THR. "We've been busy fermenting a move into this genre for quite a few months. We've been at a state of DefCon 2."
Does Voice of America sound promising to you, or is just another Idol ripoff?
