The family of Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan held a wake Wednesday for Kerrigan's father, Daniel, who died after a physical altercation with his son, Mark, according to People.

Report: Nancy Kerrigan's brother to undergo psych evaluation, won't attend father's funeral

The wake was held in Stoneham, Mass., and mourners lined the block, according to the magazine. "Dan Kerrigan was, first and foremost, a man whose family was the center of his world," the Kerrigan family said in a statement. He was also described as a devoted husband to his legally blind wife, Brenda, and a coach and role model to kids on his sons' youth hockey teams.Nancy added in the statement that her father "was there behind me always" and he was "an extra parent" to her own children with husband Jerry Solomon. Nancy's brother, Michael, said he "was virtually unable to go anywhere as a kid or an adult, without someone coming up to me saying, with a big smile, 'I just saw your dad — he's the greatest.'"

Daniel Kerrigan died at his home Sunday morning after an argument with Mark over the use of a telephone that ended with Mark grabbing his father by the neck, according to police. Mark was noticeably intoxicated and belligerent with the officers, the report said.It remains unclear whether Daniel suffered a heart attack during the altercation or if his death was caused by being grabbed. An autopsy is planned.Mark Kerrigan was not allowed to attend the wake. He has pleaded not guilty to assault and battery on an elderly person resulting in serious bodily injury and will reportedly undergo psychological evaluation.
