Liza Minnelli's ex-husband was found dead in a London hotel on Tuesday
David Gest, a music producer and reality show contestant best known for his brief, tumultuous marriage to singer and actress Liza Minnelli, was found dead in a Four Seasons hotel in London on Tuesday, the BBC reports. Gest was 62.
Police say there appear to be no suspicious circumstances.
"I know he will be missed by millions of fans around the world, and particularly in Britain, who came to love his charm and blistering one-liners," his friend Imad Handi said in a statement.
Gest was a close friend of Michael Jackson's, and produced the Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration, the last musical reunion of Michael and his siblings before Jackson's death in 2009.
He was also a tabloid fixture during his marriage to Liza Minnelli. They were married in 2002 and split in 2003, and Gest accused Minnelli of being physically abusive while she countered that he was just after her money.
Gest competed on the UK reality shows I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! and Celebrity Big Brother. He appeared on Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year, but left early during filming due to medical circumstances. In a strange coincidence, Gest was involved in a misunderstanding about his death on Celebrity Big Brother, when contestant Angie Bowie, the ex-wife of David Bowie, learned of Bowie's death and told Tiffany "New York" Pollard that "David" had died, and Pollard thought Bowie meant David Gest.
