According to Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft, a 58-year-old white male, who later killed himself, was sitting in the Grand Theater before he began randomly shooting. "The information we have at this time indicates that he was by himself, he sat by himself and the first two people he shot were sitting right in front of him ... When he stood up and started firing, people started rushing out. It looks like he spotted the officers coming in and he turned around, went against the crowd and fired a single gunshot," Craft said.
Following the tragic event, Trainwreck star Amy Schumer tweeted her condolences:
The shooting comes just a week after James Holmes was found guilty of first-degree murder in the 2012 Aurora, Colo., movie theater shooting that killed 12 people and injured 70 others.
