Mission Impossible Tops Holiday Weekend Box Office

Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol topped the Christmas weekend box office, taking in $26.5 million, Box Office Mojo reports. The Tom Cruise thriller bumped up two spots in its second week, bringing its total to $59 million. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows starring Robert Downey Jr. came in at No. 2, grossing $17.8 million. The sequel dropped significantly from last week's opening of $62.3 million.

Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol topped the Christmas weekend box office, taking in $26.5 million, Box Office Mojo reports.

The Tom Cruise thriller bumped up two spots in its second week, bringing its total to $59 million.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked was next, taking in $13.3 million in its second week of release.

The anticipated film adaption of Stieg Larsson's book The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo debuted at No. 4, pulling in just $13 million. The Adventures of Tintin, which was also released this week, followed in fifth place with a gross of $9.1 million. We Bought a Zoo, starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson, debuted in the sixth spot with $7.8 million.
Rounding out the top 10: New Year's Eve (No. 7, $3 million), Arthur Christmas (No. 8, $2.7 million),The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1 (No. 9, $2.1 million, bringing its six-week total to $270.9 million) and Hugo (No. 10, $2 million).
