The new Miss Universe hails from Barranquilla, Colombia.
Paulina Vega beat out competitors from more than 80 other countries at Sunday's Miss Universe pageant to win the crown, The Associated Press reports. The 22-year-old business administration student succeeds last year's Miss Universe winner, Miss Venezuela Gabriela Isler.
Miss USA, Nia Sanchez, was the first runner-up. The second runner-up was Miss Ukraine Diana Harkusha.
Vega says she plans to return to school and eventually wants to own her own company. Her Miss Universe prize includes an undisclosed salary, a luxury New York City apartment, a wardrobe, beauty products, and a one-year scholarship from the New York Film Academy, the AP reports.
