Mischa Barton Sues Mother for Stealing

The O.C. star's mother has allegedly been stealing from her for over a decade

Mischa Barton is suing her mother on claims that Nuala Barton has routinely stolen money and exploited her name for profit.

"This action arises from the tragic tale of a greedy stage mother posing as a talent manager who, instead of acting in the best interest of her daughter/client, schemed to defraud her unsuspecting victim," reads the complaint, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.

The O.C. alum, 29, alleges that Nuala, who "had absolutely no experience or training" in talent management, put herself in sole control of Mischa's finances and that Nuala only 'doled out an 'allowance' to Barton at her sole discretion and on a sporadic basis."

The O.C. cast: Where are they now?

The filing claims that Nuala convinced Mischa to purchase a lavish $7.8 million Beverly Hills home in 2006 that "would be a vehicle for which Barton could invest her growing income for acting services." However, Nuala assigned herself half-ownership of the property, where she now resides with Barton's father Paul. The salt in the wound: Mischa isn't even allowed to visit the house.

Nuala has reportedly made a habit of stealing money from Mischa, who began acting at the age of 8. The suit claims Nuala lied about the actress' compensation for the 2015 film The Hoarder"so that she could pocket the difference - on top of her hefty management fee - all without Barton's knowledge." Nuala also unwittingly entered Mischa into endorsement contracts and exploited The Sixth Sense actress' name to launch a handbag line and fashion boutique in London without giving her daughter any compensation.

"Nuala currently refuses to provide Barton with any of the funds she earned (and continues to earn in the form of residual payments) for her acting, modeling and endorsement services," the complaint states.

"These revelations of exploitation and fraud, coupled with ongoing instances of bullying and verbal abuse, eventually led to the breakdown of Barton and Nuala's personal and professional relationship," it continues.
