There must be something in the water at Downton!
Maybe that has to do with the way these proposals are executed. (Let's just say that they vary widely on the romantic scale.) The worst of them amounts to an after-the-fact business proposal. One of the best, however, is so heartfelt and unexpected that the lady in question is swept off her well-mannered feet and accepts despite her earlier reluctance. Unfortunately though, events (and people) conspire to part the happy couple -- and the engagement ends up broken.
Could it be Mary (Michelle Dockery), who recently tasted the fruits that Gillingham had to offer? Or perhaps someone downstairs who feels that duty trumps happiness? We'll just say this: It's not widower Tom Branson (Allen Leech), who lost his dear wife two seasons ago. "It's going to take a long time for Tom to get over that relationship," Leech tells TVGuide.com. "I think Sarah Bunting would like it to be more than that, but I think Branson sees it more as someone who gives him a reminder of the political aspects of his life."
Who do you think gets engaged and then has a change of heart?
