Mayim Bialik Defends Breastfeeding in Public

The Big Bang Theory star Mayim Bialik is now quite well known for her less conventional style of attachment parenting, especially after the actress posted a photo of herself breastfeeding her 3-year-old son, Fred, on a New York City subway in 2011. The picture made headlines and created a backlash.

Three years later, Bialik wants to end the firestorm once and for all.

"What I like to point out is that was the best way for that subway ride to be pleasant for everyone," Bialik told Huffington Post Live. "I don't believe you need to cover up a baby eating anymore than you need to cover a baby drinking a bottle."

Bialik blames the controversy on society's "very, very bizarre relationship with breasts." However, she hopes to play a small part in helping America move on and get over it. "Breastfeeding is NOT a sexual act," she says.
