The Sons of Anarchy Spin-off Mayans M.C. Looks Legit

The new biker drama feels like classic SAMCRO

Tim Surette

Sons of Anarchy may have worn out its welcome a bit by the end of its run, but let's not forget that in its prime, it was one of the better dramas on television. That feeling is back with the first trailer for Mayans M.C., the sequel/spin-off following the occasional ally and frequent enemy of SAMCRO, the Hispanic motorcycle gang Mayans.

Ditching the bearded white boys in need of a good shampoo for the Mayans appears to be a good choice as Mayans M.C. seems to strike that perfect balance between feeling just different and just familiar enough from the mothership. Mayans M.C. is all about new recruit EZ Reyes (Revolution's JD Pardo) as he joins the club and takes orders from Sons of Anarchy vet Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera) while also dealing with his dad (Edward James Olmos). It will be violent and darkly funny.

Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter co-created the series with bad boy filmmaker Elgin James. The first season premieres Sept. 4 at 10/9c on FX.
