Mayans M.C. features a lot of badass dudes kicking butts and burning rubber, and as a drama about a violent motorcycle club engaging in shady dealings, it should! But I'm going to let you in on a little secret: Those homies in the Mayans leather cuts are actors, not actual gangsters.
Through the magic of makeup, wardrobe, special effects and acting, even the nerdiest of nerds can look like a badass on a TV show. But before the finished product hits your screen, what happens behind the scene can be a totally different story.
At the premiere party for FX's Mayans M.C., we asked the cast and crew of the series who of the actors on the series took to riding a motorcycle like a natural, and who needed training wheels. The questions appeared to cause a little bit of concern among the crew; most were happy to point out who was good, but few were willing to call out those who were wobbly on the bike. It seems that club camaraderie has spilled over to real life.
Thankfully, creator Kurt Sutter kept it real by name-dropping one of his pals from Sons of Anarchy as someone who was the worst at getting on the hog, while a vet from Sons had the experience to be called the best on the bike.
Mayans M.C. airs Tuesday nights at 10/9c on FX.
