Ever since Liv and Maddie's Dove Cameron was announced as a guest star on this season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., fans have been not-so-patiently waiting to find out who exactly she'd be playing and how she'd factor into this year's story. Well the wait is over, as her character is finally getting introduced in this week's episode.
TV Guide spoke to Cameron about her mysterious new role and why fans might be getting more than they bargained for with this new character, Ruby.
"Ruby is a very mysterious, very intelligent - I would say probably in the upper level of genius category - young girl," Cameron says. "She's maybe 17 or 18 years old. She's very intense, and she definitely has all of the abilities, mentally, of any crazy mad scientist genius that you've ever come across. She's very sassy and very aware of herself... and then there's a whole other side to her that you'll meet soon. She's a very interesting character. She's a wild card."
Thanks to a short sneak peek of this episode, we know that Ruby is the daughter of General Hale (Catherine Dent), and her relationship with her mother is combative at best. That relationship is going to be central to Ruby's storyline this season, and Cameron says there's both good and bad elements we'll explore within that mother-daughter dynamic.
"In a lot of ways her relationship with her mother is a lot like any mother-daughter relationship. There's tension, there's mistrust, there's control issues. There's rebellion, but there's also a lot of love," Cameron teases. "And then at the end of the episode I think a lot will also be clarified as to why they are so intense together, and sort of why Ruby is the way that she is actually."
Are you excited to meet Ruby when Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns?
