Marisa Tomei will guest-star in the second episode of The Handmaid's Tale's second season, executive produce Bruce Miller told reporters at the Television Critics Association winter TV previews Sunday.

Miller didn't reveal much about Tomei's character except that she would be the wife of a commander, and she'd be introduced in the second episode of Season 2. The Oscar winner's story will be introduced in the same episode that we'll explore the much-talked-about but never-seen Colonies. In Margaret Atwood's source novel, the Colonies are described as a barren wasteland riddled with radioactive waste, where undesirable members of society are sent to perform hard labor and eventually die.

This will be Tomei's first return to television since her arc on Empire in 2015.

The Colonies won't be the only expansion of The Handmaid's Tale's world though. We'll be getting some very informative flashbacks this season as well. "We're able to see how Gilead came about," Miller said.
