After just one year, Mariah Carey has exited American Idol, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

"W/ global success of '#Beautiful' (#1 in 30+ countries so far) @MariahCarey confirms world tour & says goodbye 2 Idol," the account for her reps PMK-BNC tweeted Thursday, which Carey retweeted shortly after.

Carey, who joined the show in Season 12, had been criticized for being too nice on the judging panel. Although she was arguably the most qualified judge, exceeding her colleagues in career longevity, raw vocal talent, chart success and international stardom, she was initially tentative to give constructive criticism to the competitors. After producers encouraged her to give true feedback, her critiques were often rambling and confusing.

5 changes American Idol  needs to make in Season 13

"Mariah Carey is a true global icon — one of the most accomplished artists on the planet — and we feel extremely fortunate that she was able to bring her  wisdom and experience to the American Idol contestants this season," Fox said in a statement. "We know she will remain an inspiration to Idol hopefuls for many seasons to come."

After news broke that Idol's Season 13 may feature alums as judges, Carey follows fellow judge Randy Jackson out the door. There's no word on whether Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban will stick with the reality competition series.

Which Idol alums do you think could replace Jackson and Carey? Will you miss them? Hit the comments!
