Strassman's friends Cher and director Bob Weide, announced her death via Twitter. "So sad that a sweet friend, kind person & wonderful actress Marcia Strassman lost her brave battle with cancer today," Weide tweeted.
Born in New York City, Strassman pursued a music career in the late 1960s. Her debut single, "The Flower Children," reached the Top 10 in San Diego and San Francisco.
When her music career stalled, Strassman was given the recurring role of nurse Margie Cutler in M*A*S*H. She joined Welcome Back, Kotter as the title character's wife in 1975 and also guest-starred on other shows including The Rockford Files and The Love Boat.
In addition to Welcome Back, Kotter, Strassman is also known for playing Diane Szalinski, the wife of Rick Moranis' character, in 1989's Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and its sequel Honey, I Blew Up the Kid.
