This Is Why the New Magnum P.I. Doesn't Have a Mustache

There may be something else for you 'stache fiends though

Magnum P.I. is back, but he's lacking a key component of his signature look -- the mustache.

Jay Hernandez is taking over the iconic part first inhabited by Tom Selleck in the '80s and is rebooting the action-drama for CBS this fall. And while no one can deny that Hernandez is great to look at, our new Magnum will not rock the iconic thick mustache in the new show this fall. That was intentional though!

"No one is going to replace Tom Selleck," Hernandez told TV Guide on the Upfronts red carpet in New York on Wednesday. "You can't do that. You gotta sorta reinvent it, take what works from the original show and sort of make it new so that's what we did."

The actor teases that mustache fans won't be disappointed when they check out the new Magnum though.

"Just wait! Watch the show, there might be something that people who need the mustache might feel satisfied with," he insisted.

Even if you don't get your mustache, the new series does promise a lot of handsome dudes, badass women, explosions and high-octane stunts.

Magnum P.I. premieres this fall on CBS.
