Madonna Madonna

Madonna will perform during the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show in Indianapolis on Feb. 5, sports site SB Nation reports.

No artists have been formally announced for the championship game, however, and a spokesperson for the NFL declined to comment.

If true, this is the third time Madonna has circled the gig. She was rumored to headline the halftime show in 1998 and then again in 2000, but others landed the coveted spot instead. The performance would be a great opportunity for the Material Girl to perform her new material. While doing press for her second directorial effort, W.E., Madonna announced that her 12th studio album would be out in spring of 2012.

Recent halftime performers include The Who (2010) and last year's lineup of The Black Eyed Peas, Usher and Slash.

Super Bowl XLVI will air live on NBC.
