After the travesties that were Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B and The Brittany Murphy Story, we had lost all faith in Lifetime biopics about dead female celebrities. And yet here comes the trailer for Whitney to change our minds.
After the travesties that were Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B and The Brittany Murphy Story, we had lost all faith in Lifetime biopics about dead female celebrities. And yet here comes the trailer for Whitney to change our minds.
In the first real look at the Whitney Houston biopic, which you can watch on BuzzFeed,American's Next Top Model alum Yaya Dacosta actually does a damn good job as the iconic star. In what may be a Lifetime first, the casting, costuming and hair and makeup all seem completely on-point throughout the trailer (particularly Houston and Boby Brown's wedding outfits).
The trailer also ensures us that Whitney isn't going to skim over the darker parts of the singer's life, with images of Houston snorting cocaine and fighting with her mother Cissy. However, no reenactments of Being Bobby Brown were spotted. Keep your fingers crossed, people. If Lifetime can make a good biopic, anything is possible!
Whitney premieres Saturday, Jan. 17 at 8/7c on Lifetime. Will you watch?
