Letterman's Mea Culpa Brings in High Ratings

David Letterman may be in the doghouse with wife, but he's still a big hit with audiences.

Monday's episode of Late Show with David Letterman played to 5.7 million viewers and earned a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 adults demographic, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show marked Letterman's first since he revealed a blackmail plot against him based on his affairs with female employees. Letterman apologized to his wife, Regina Lasko, at the beginning of the show.

"She has been horribly hurt by my behavior, and when something happens like that, if you hurt a person and it's your responsibility, you try to fix it," he said.

The Reporter also said Monday's Late Show marks one of Letterman's highest rated shows this season, second only to President Barack Obama's visit on Sept. 21.
