It's been a long (like really, really long) hiatus, but Legacies is almost back! Soon it will be time to return to Mystic Falls and the supernatural shenanigans of the Salvatore School. Until then, TV Guide has the exclusive trailer for Legacies Season 2, and it should come as no surprise that we're going to hit the ground running when the show returns on Oct. 10.
Though poor Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell) was last seen flinging herself into the Malivore pit in an effort to stop the evil golem from rising in the Season 1 finale, she did not die in the process as planned — maybe. Our first look at Hope, wherever she is, is just as mysterious as expected, but we're just glad she'll be back on our screens, whether it's dead, alive, or somewhere in between.
We imagine her friends at the Salvatore School would be just as relieved to hear she's still amongst the living — if only they could remember she exists, of course! That swan dive she took last year took all of the memories of her existence with her, and as a result, her schoolmates, Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) in particular, have spent their summer a little confused about the gaps in their lives where Hope Mikaelson used to be. That hasn't stopped him from getting closer to Josie (Kaylee Bryant), though, as the trailer proves.
But their new friendship might prove useful in figuring out what happened to Hope since they appear to be cooking up a spell of some sort. Plus, Landon's dangerous dip into the school's fiery lake (is that a rope we spot tying him down?), paired with the ominous line "Never give up hope" — we see what you did there! — might just put him on the right track to rescuing his girlfriend. Even if he can't remember her!
Other things you should go back and look for while re-watching the trailer are Alexis Denisof's new character, Professor Vardemus, and the nifty ring he's rocking; poor Rafael (Peyton Alex Smith) stuck in wolf form; and a very creepy, blink-and-you'll-miss-it monster in the middle of those flashes of Hope.
Legacies premieres Thursday, Oct. 10 at 9/8c on The CW.
