Details on the groundbreaking casting
Laverne Cox has been cast in the CBS drama pilot Doubt, TVGuide.com has confirmed.
The Orange Is the New Black star became the first openly transgender actor to earn an Emmy nomination for her role in the Netflix series. Now her role in Doubt will also make her the first transgender series regular on a broadcast show played by a transgender actress (if CBS picks up the pilot to series).
Grammys fashion hits and misses
From Grey's Anatomy executive producers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, Doubt is about a yet-to-be-cast defense lawyer who gets romantically involved with one of her clients who may or may not be guilty of a brutal crime. Cox will co-star as Cameron Wirth, a competitive but compassionate Ivy League-educated attorney whose own experiences of injustice make her fight that much harder for her clients.
In addition to the potential CBS drama, Cox will also appear in an upcoming episode of The Mindy Project as Tamra's cousin.
