UPDATE 9/19: Kidding will now premiere Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020, after the Season 8 premiere of Homeland, Showtime has announced. The first two episodes will air starting at 10/9c.

It looks like Mr. Pickles (Jim Carrey) is stepping into the toy game for Season 2 of Kidding. The official trailer for the upcoming season, which dropped on Friday, features the children's TV icon launching a new line of dolls as a way to connect more with his young audience. Showtime has also announced that Kidding Season 2 premieres Sunday, Feb. 9 at 10/9c.

The dark comedy centers on Jeff, aka Mr. Pickles, a Mr. Rogers-like figure who heads a multimillion-dollar brand. But in contrast to his bright and generally happy demeanor on screen, the real guy behind that signature green sweater vest is depressed and going through a personal crisis following the death of one of his sons. Season 1 followed his deeply sad but hilarious journey through grief as his sanity slowly trickled through his fingertips.

Building on that, the new season finds him forging ahead with a new line of toys and finally cutting his floppy hair. However, he'll still grapple with the emotional highs and lows that come with depression, all while finding new and potentially controversial ways to bring joy to children everywhere.

"As we go along, we see that these terrible forces and these wonderful forces all work together," Carrey told reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Friday while discussing the new season. "They're always working together. They're always in the same place at the same time. This season you're going to see a lot of hopefulness and a lot of positive and really way-out-there surreal creativity."

In addition to Carrey, Kidding stars Frank Langella as Sebastian Piccirillo, Jeff's father and executive producer of his hit puppet show; Judy Greer as Jill, his estranged wife; and Catherine Keener as Didi, Jeff's sister and head puppet maker. Season 2 will also see resident Jim Carrey stan Ariana Grande drop by for a cameo.

Showtime has also revealed season premiere dates for Shameless and Ray Donovan. Shameless returns for Season 10 on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 9/8c. Ray Donovan returns for Season 7 on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 8/7c.

Kidding Season 2 premieres Sunday, Feb. 9 at 10/9c on Showtime.
