Denver Broncos wide receiver Kenny McKinley was found dead Monday. He was 23 years old.
McKinley died from an apparent suicide, The Denver Post reported.
A second-year pro, McKinley started the season on the injured reserve list. He played in eight games last year.
"Everyone with the Broncos is shocked and saddened by the loss of Kenny McKinley," Broncos President Pat Bowlen said. "He was part of the Broncos family and will be greatly missed by our organization. My most heartfelt condolences go out to Kenny's family and friends."
Before going pro, McKinley played for the University of South Carolina and still holds multiple school records for receptions and receiving yards.
"Kenny had a promising future on the football field, but more importantly, he was a great teammate whose smile and personality could light up the room," head coach Josh McDaniels said.
