It looks like football fans can expect some fireworks at the next Super Bowl, and we're not talking about the game.

Katy Perry is set to perform at the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show, Page Six reports.

Perry, 29, was first rumored as one of the top picks for the gig back in August, along with Coldplay and Rihanna. However, the initial report suggested that the National Football League was trying to coerce an act into paying to play the halftime show. When Perry made an appearance on ESPN's College GameDay last Saturday, she rebuffed that notion saying, "I'm not the kind of girl who would pay to play the Super Bowl."

The most memorable Super Bowl halftime shows

One thing that may have worked in Perry's favor is that the halftime show is being sponsored by Pepsi, which worked with Perry to promote her 2012 documentary film Part of Me. She has no formal deal with the soda company.

Since the rumors first started about Perry, Coldplay and Rihanna, the latter artist's relationship with the NFL has soured immensely. Her song "Run This Town" was originally set to run during CBS' Thursday Night Football. However, after the network pulled the tune during the first broadcast in the wake of the Ray Rice scandal, Rihanna then lashed out at CBS for revictimizing her and had her music label rescind CBS' rights to use the song.

If Perry does play, she would follow in the footsteps of recent halftime performers including Bruno Mars, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Beyonce.

NBC will broadcast Super Bowl XLIX live from University of Phoenix stadium in Arizona on Sunday, Feb. 1.
