Katie Holmes will reprise her role as Jackie Kennedy for another Reelz miniseries, the network announced on Monday.
The Kennedys — After Camelot, based on the best-selling book by J. Randy Taraborrelli, will take viewers through the famous first family's saga from 1968 to the present. The 4-episode series, which was originally announced in 2012, is a sequel to the 2011 Reelz miniseries The Kennedys.
"The Kennedys' was a brilliant execution of storytelling based on the lives of one of the world's best known families," Reelz CEO Stan E. Hubbard said in a statement. "We are delighted that we were able to step up and acquire the broadcast rights to that property and we have every confidence that this new miniseries will be as enthusiastically received as the last one. Katie elegantly portrayed Jackie Kennedy in the first miniseries and now will continue the role as Jackie grows into the Jackie O that the world knows best. Katie is brave, committed and perfect for this role. She is a strong, talented woman who understands how special and respected Jackie Kennedy, and then Jackie Onassis was, as an international icon."
Holmes will direct one of the four episodes and will executive-produce as well.
The Kennedys received 10 Emmy nominations and won four Emmy Awards in 2011. The Kennedys — After Camelot is slated to begin production in spring 2015.
