Kate Walsh Talks Grey's-Private Crossover: Sexy Time Coming!

Boy, does Private Practice's Addison (Kate Walsh) have man troubles. She's kissed Derek (Patrick Dempsey), Mark (Eric Dane), Sam (Taye Diggs), but can't seem to hold down a boyfriend. And her love woes will continue during the Grey's Anatomy-Private Practicecrossover, Walsh says. Facing a family crisis, Addison will turn to Mark. But that will make Sam reconsider his decision to turn down her booty call. Yes, all of these characters are supposed to be doctors. Walsh spoke with TVGuide.com about what else we can look forward to in the crossover, who she thinks Addison should end up with, and what's ahead in the second half of the season.

TVGuide.com: Addison is going through quite a tough time after finding out these secrets about her family. How do they change her?
Kate Walsh: She went through quite a tumultuous time and she's still kind of raw. Everything that she thought about her entire childhood was blown out of the water. Even though they resolved it kind of quickly... they resolved it in that waspy way, where everything was buttoned up and Bizzy [JoBeth Williams] got on a plane. She comes back to work and she's still pretty frazzled. Everyone is wondering what's going on.

On top of that, she goes up to Seattle to work on a case with Mark Sloane, then he comes back. She's in a — personally, I think — pretty fraught place. Plus, she has this high-pressure surgery that she's going to do for Sloan [Leven Rambin] and there's some complications with that. It leads her to this crazy, very exposed, vulnerable place, lots of madness and drama.

TVGuide.com: What else canfans look forward to in the crossover?
Walsh: It's a super sexy episode, that's all I'm going to say. It's been a real dry spell for Addison...

TVGuide.com: Was it nice getting back with the Grey's cast again?
Walsh: I always love going back. Honestly, it's like going home in a great way for me. It keeps it interesting and fun. It's like an extended family, the big extended cast. I loved it.

The Humanist: Shonda Rhimes hones in on ethical, moral Grey areas

TVGuide.com: She's always had a pretty strong connection with Mark. Do you personally think that Addison should end up with him in the end?
Walsh: Geez, I don't know. I leave that up to [executive producer Shonda Rhimes]. It's so unreal and fantastic that there's all these different amazing dudes for Addison to connect with. They're all special and unique and gorgeous and sexy and fabulous in their own specific way. I do think that one of the strong-suits of the crossover episode is that anytime you see characters that have a history together reunited, there's always that sense of longing, of ennui, and of course, sexual tension. There's that "Well, what could have been?" and "Should we be together?" I thought that was one of the things that was very compelling.

TVGuide.com: Sam turned her down in her time of need. Do you think he's going to regret that or even show some jealousy with Mark there?
Walsh: All is possible. [Laughs.] That's one of the things that makes the characters interesting. Everyone is always trying to do the right thing. Sometimes they do it and regret it and other times they don't do it and regret it. So it's damned if you do and damned if you don't. Sam was behaving and acting like a gentleman and truly looking out for his friend and didn't want to take advantage. Addison is a person who definitely acts out sexually. That's her history and her M.O.

TVGuide.com: And I'm sure kissing Taye Diggs isn't hard either?
Walsh: Yeah, well you know, it's all in a hard day's work.

TVGuide.com: Do you think Addison will ever find true love?
Walsh: Yeah, I think so. It may not be the kind of love that she thinks she's supposed to have, or she may have to relearn what love is, which I think a lot of people can also identify with.

TVGuide.com: Will Addison's fertility issues ever be addressed on the show again?
Walsh: You're going to see that in the latter half of the season. It's one of the things that will come up again. It's a great question and it's one that I've been consumed with and fans have been asking about as well, so I think Shonda is going to deal with that.

TVGuide.com: Will Addison's parents make another visit this season?
Walsh: I hope so. I love those people, they make me really happy. I love having that other facet to play with Addison, that she's so super alpha at work and so flawed in the romance department, but I really love seeing her with her family as somebody's little girl, somebody's daughter, somebody's sister. It's so fun to play and interesting to see. A lot of people can really identify with that dynamic and that relationship. You can be strong and kick-ass, and seemingly happy with your act together, and then anybody who goes home always seems to regress to their most vulnerable childhood age, so I hope they do come back.
