Kate Walsh is opening up for the first time about her divorce after her whirlwind romance and 15 months of marriage, saying she never thought she'd go through the same thing as her character in Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice.

"I don't think anyone gets married thinking that they will get divorced," Walsh, 41, told Redbook about her failed marriage to film studio executive Alex Young, 38. "Alex and I still care for each other, and I wish him nothing but the best. The silver lining to this, however, is that I have a wonderful family and a great group of friends who really showed their support and encouragement, and for that I am truly grateful."

Young filed for divorce from Walsh in December citing irreconcilable differences. The two were wed after only dating for three-months.

Walsh still wants to have children. "I would like to do that. One of my favorite parts of the show is that we get to work with babies every episode. I don't know if it's a woman thing — to want to nurture something and also give back — but one of the things I have gotten into is volunteering at hospitals in L.A., helping with the infants who need human contact."

While she plays confident neonatal surgeon Addison Montgomery at Seattle Grace, Walsh says it's different in real life.

"I second-guess myself all the time," Walsh said. "I make a decision and then wonder if I made the wrong choice. Sometimes I come off as confident, but really I am a quivering little wharf rat underneath."
