Can you withdraw from college via text message?

On Gossip Girl's November 15 episode, Juliet (Katie Cassidy) attempted to sabotage Serena (Blake Lively) by swiping her phone and texting the dean, withdrawing her nemesis from Columbia University. Granted, it's not out of the question that the foxy blonde would have a faculty member's info in her mobile — but could it really be that easy to become a dropout? Lucky for impulsive Big Apple undergrads, the answer is no. The registrar's office at Columbia confirms that a text message, e-mail or phone call on its own wouldn't suffice. In order for the withdrawal to be official, a student would have to file a form from the specific school within the university that he or she attends.
