The series struck gold, winning three statues: Outstanding Structured Reality Program, Outstanding Picture Editing for a Structured or Competition Reality Program and Outstanding Casting for a Reality Program. Newcomer Queer Eye beat out repeat winners and nominees Shark Tank, Antiques Roadshow, and Who Do You Think You Are? for Outstanding Structured Reality Program.
But the even bigger upset of the night happened on the red carpet, where everyone's fave grooming savant effortlessly and elegantly served up a sheer, beaded, black dress that took Instagram by storm. While Jonathan Van Ness' fans piled on the praise — Queen of Genderfluidity and breaking down societal expectations of beauty — there were some extremely loud naysayers in the mix.
"The guy in the dress looks like the villain in despicable me 3," wrote one commenter whose account was private and used a heavily filtered snapchat as their profile pic. And just like on the the red carpet, JVN snapped.
"I look f***ing stunning and my name is Jonathan, snap chat filter using on your Insta tiny circle private profile having self," the reality star replied.
When the scathing interaction got picked up by popular celeb gossip account Comments By Celebs, JVN took his discourse one step further by adding, "Also, I love all these transphobic comments in here. 'The guy in a dress' is insulting and anyone that doesn't see the implications is blind. F***ing [rude] people. I'm too tired."
