Jonas Brothers School Kids on How to Go Green

The children of the Ricardo Lizarraga Elementary School in Los Angeles came to school Tuesday knowing that there would be a celebration for Earth Day. The cheerleading squad had prepared their special "green" cheers, and the school's own student rock band had written Earth Day songs for the occasion.
But when the Jonas Brothers - Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas - showed up to watch the festivities, the kids could not believe their eyes. Squeals and screams of delight drowned out Disney President and CEO Robert A. Iger, who introduced the tween-dream trio. The brothers, along with Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Iger, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and the eco-group TreePeople, were on hand to help the kids plant trees and to discuss the importance of going green.
"We want to be able to be a positive influence," said Kevin. "The little things count. If everyone flipped their lights out at night it would be amazing what the world could do."
The Walt Disney Company presented a $250,000 check to TreePeople to help further its cause to plant more trees at Los Angeles-area schools, part of Mayor Villaraigosa's Million Trees LA Program. VoluntEARS from Disney were on hand to assist the children in planting trees and shrubs around the Lizarraga Elementary campus.
The Jonas Brothers, sporting green-colored attire for the occasion, got into the act, shoveling dirt with the kids and discussing what they do to help the environment. Kevin, the only Jonas old enough to drive, recently purchased a hybrid vehicle. The brothers also make sure that their products are as green as possible.
"The packaging on our CDs is made with 100 percent recycled materials," said Nick.
The guys reminded the kids to turn off their televisions and unplug computers when not in use, and to keep water usage to a minimum.
"You can also do things like make sure to use both sides of the paper!" added Joe.
For the kids at Lizarraga elementary school, this will be one Earth Day they will most likely never forget. - Clare Kleinedler
