Jon Paul Steuer's cause of death has been revealed.

Officials confirmed to the Blast that the Star Trek and Grace Under Fire actor died Jan 1. of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was 33.

A former child actor, he appeared in a number of projects throughout the early '90s including the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Reunion" as a young Klingon. Other credits include the series Homefront and The Wonder Years, as well as the classic sports comedy flick Little Giants.

Steuer went on to star as Brett Butler's son Quentin Kelly in the sitcom Grace Under Fire before departing the series in 1996. He confirmed in a 2015 interview with The A.V. Club that he left because of Brett's erratic behavior and the negative publicity surrounding it.

"When everything kind of hit the press with Grace Under Fire, all those negative stories [about Brett Butler] started being spread. It was pretty barbaric," he said. "I couldn't go to the grocery store without people staring and pointing at me, because I was on the cover of every tabloid at every checkout stand."

Steuer quit acting altogether at the age of 12.

He eventually joined the band P.R.O.B.L.E.M.S. as lead singer Jonny Jewels and remained with the group until his death earlier this year.
