Jon Hamm admits that he's had a rough 24 hours.

While the Mad Men star was in the midst of press appearances to promote the final episodes of AMC's drama (which premiere April 5), news broke Tuesday night that he had recently completed a stint in rehab for alcohol addiction.

"Life throws a lot at you sometimes and you have to deal with it as much as you can," Hamm told Australia's TV WeekWednesday. "That's why you have family and friends and co-workers to help you with that."

TMZ broke the news that Hamm, 44, checked himself into a 30-day program Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut last month. Mad Men wrapped filming in June. "I understand it constitutes news these days, but it's between me and my family and not something for public consumption," Hamm told TV Week. "I've been very fortunate that throughout the most recent 24-hour period. I've had a lot of family and friends support me. I guess that's all I will say about that."

Hamm also dismissed theories that his own struggles with alcohol mirror those of his Mad Men character, Don Draper. "Obviously there can be a lot of discussion about how much of this is related to that and honestly I don't have much to say about that either," he tells TV Week. "I've said in varying ways that acting can be a difficult endeavor. ... It does present its own challenges and so does life."
