Jolts and Jabs on Survivor Finale

While Hatch's unexpected victory may have been the evening's biggest surprise, the night's most dramatic moment came during the final tribal council when the seven jury members were allowed to ask the two finalists a question. Self-proclaimed redneck Susan Hawk ? the first of the final four voted out ? took the opportunity to lambaste nemesis Wiglesworth for stabbing her in the back. "You lied to me, which showed me the true person you are. You're very two-faced and manipulative to get where you are... that's why you fail all the time," she said. "If I ever pass you along in life again and you are laying there dying of thirst, I would not give you a drink of water. I would let the vultures take you and do whatever they want with you, with no ill regret.

"You will not get my vote ? my vote will go to Richard," she added. "And I hope that is the one vote that makes you lose the money."

Later, while submitting his vote for Kelly, Gervase Peterson fired back during a one-on-one to viewers. "That's what in my town we call a sore loser," he scowled. "Because when Sue was doing the backstabbing, the lying, the throwing the knives everywhere, she was happy. If she was sitting in Kelly's spot right now, she wouldn't be thinking about nothing but this million dollars and that just shows you how trite she is. So, Kelly, I hope you win it and after you win it you can stuff it in Sue's face."

But sadly, Hawk and Wiglesworth's bitter rivalry did not spill over into the town hall meeting. Explaining that she "was pissed at the time," Hawk shook Wiglesworth's hand in front of the live studio audience, adding that "I never regret what I say, but yeah, it's over with. At the time it worked for me." Responded Wiglesworth: "I'm over it. Life goes on. It was a mean game." Rats!

Other highlights from the town hall meeting:

Rich on his affinity for taking his clothes off: "Nudity is just something that I'm comfortable with. When it did offend some people, I immediately put my clothes back on. My intention wasn't to offend."

When asked what he was thinking when he released his hand from the immunity idol during the second challenge, Rudy replied: "I must have fell asleep or something."

Gumbel also questioned Rudy about whether his feelings toward homosexuals had changed after spending 39 days on Palau Tiga with Rich. "No," he replied in classic Rudy fashion.

Jeff Probst, who wasn't in attendance, provided viewers with a first look at the setting of Survivor II: the Australian Outback. "This is a land so vast, so remote, that large portions of it aren't even charted," he said in a taped segment. "But 39 days in this environment is going to be harsh. The temperatures are going to be scorching, not to mention that there are all sorts of deadly creatures scampering about." Meanwhile, Hatch's media blitz kicks off this morning with an appearance on CBS's The Early Show followed by The Late Show With David Letterman tonight. Next week he'll serve as a guest host on WPRO, a Providence, RI, radio station, and will appear on Hollywood Squares the week of Sept. 25 with Wiglesworth, Boesch and Hawk.
