John Stamos is not a man to hide from his past.
The actor is not only currently shooting Netflix's Full House revival Fuller House, but also admits that an unflattering scene from the trailer of Lifetime's Unauthorized Full House Story depicted him fairly. In it, the man who is playing Stamos complains about how the twins aren't comfortable on camera, and therefore are delaying their shooting schedule.
"It's sort of true; the Olsen twins would cry a lot," Stamos said at the Television Critics Association fall previews for his new comedy Grandfathered. "It was very difficult to get the shot, so that is 100 percent accurate. I said, 'Get rid of these kids.' They brought in a couple of unattractive redheaded kids, and we tried that for a while and that didn't work. So it was, 'All right, invite the Olsen twins back.' That's the story."
Stamos has learned a lot about working with kids since then. On Grandfathered he plays diehard bachelor and restaurateur Jimmy Martino, who suddenly learns that he has an adult son Gerald (Josh Peck)... and a granddaughter, Edie, whom is of course played by twin actresses. "I really love it," he said about acting with children. "I feel like I'm a baby whisperer now."
Christina Milian, who plays Edie's mother, added, "It's kind of scary how Josh and John are good with the kids. You're making us girls look bad on the set. ...He's really fantastic with the kids."
Stamos revealed that his secret is to whisper into the kids' ears, "I made a couple of twins a lot of money. Stop crying and start a clothing line."
Grandfathered premieres Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 8/7c on Fox.
