CBS News Political Director John Dickerson will replace Bob Schieffer as host of Face the Nation when Schieffer retires at the end of this summer, CBS announced Sunday.

Face the Nation's Bob Schieffer is retiring

Schieffer broke the news himself on Sunday's show. "The obvious question is, who's going to take this seat? I'm happy to say the answer is my friend CBS News political director John Dickerson, who's been on this broadcast 83 times and he sure has the right bloodlines," Schieffer told viewers.

Dickerson joined CBS News in April 2009 as an analyst and contributor. He is also the chief political correspondent at Slate magazine.

Schieffer announced his plans to retire last week, after hosting Face the Nation for 24 years.

Do you think Dickerson will be a good host?
