Jimmy Smits Joins Fox's 24: Legacy

Fox is brining veteran TV actor Jimmy Smits to its 24 reboot, TVLine reports.
The new series, 24: Legacy will find Smits as a series regular playing John Donovan, a big shot U.S. senator with bigger aspirations.

The new series would span 12 episodes, with The Walking Dead's Corey Hawkins playing the new Jack Bauer. His character, Eric Carter, is a onetime Army Ranger who finds himself roped back into action when his past catches up with him and turns to the CTU to help save his life and stop a big terror attack. The Messengers' Anna Diop will play his wife.
"There's a time jump, a new organization, a completely different story," Fox co-chairman and CEO Dana Walden said. "It's a contemporary story about the potential to activate sleeper cells in the United States. There are nods in the pilot to prior CTU agents, but no ongoing characters."
24: Legacy will feature nods to prior CTU agents but no ongoing characters - so no Kiefer Sutherland cameos, but he may serve as executive producer.
