Jessica Lange and her longtime partner, actor and playwright Sam Shepard, have split, People reports. Oddly enough, the couple went their separate ways sometime in 2010, but kept the news quiet until now. "They both are pursuing independent lives," a source tells the magazine.

Lange, 62, and Shepard, 68, met on the set of the film Frances in 1982. They have two adult children together, Hannah and Samuel.
Lange stars as the worst mother ever, Constance, in FX's American Horror Story. The role recently earned her Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards nominations. She next stars with Rachel McAdams in the big-screen romance The Vow.
