As Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek continues mulling retirement, the syndicated game show is weighing its options regarding its next host. And according to The New York Post, the current frontrunner is... Today show anchor Matt Lauer.
Matt Lauer: We did not handle Ann Curry's Today exit well

The Post reports that Lauer is most likely leaving Todayafter his contract expires in 2015, which is roughly around the same time Trebek is expected to leave Jeopardy! after three decades. Also on the short list of possible replacements is Anderson Cooper, whose daytime show wraps this year and whose contract with CNN ends next year.

While it remains unclear if Sony, which produces Jeopardy! has approached Lauer's agents, The Post claims that Cooper knows Jeopardy! is interested and that "he likes the idea." It wouldn't be Cooper's first time hosting a competition series, either. Cooper previously hosted The Mole for two seasons in the early 2000s.

Deadline also reports that NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams and NBC sports anchor Dan Patrick have also been approached by Sony about the gig. However, because of Jeopardy!'s relatively small time commitments, Trebek's potential successor wouldn't necessarily have to leave their day job. For example, Meredith Vieira has hosted the syndicated version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire while juggling her daily commitments to The View, and later Today, before she announced she was leaving the game show earlier this year.

Who do you think should replace Trebek?
