Damon Lindelof has added another fantastic actor to his Watchmen series at HBO; the executive producer and director has cast Jean Smart, according to Deadline. But much like the rest of the roles in this series, the details about who she's playing are being kept under wraps.

Smart joins an A-list cast that also includes Jeremy Irons, Regina King, Don Johnson, Louis Gossett Jr., Tim Blake Nelson, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard and Tom Mison. Specifics regarding Lindelof's take on the beloved graphic novel are being kept mum by HBO, but we do know that the series will take place in modern day instead of the '80s. It will still be a world in which superheroes are considered outlaws.

The series has been in the works for a while. Zack Snyder, who directed the 2009 film adaptation, originally brought the idea of a Watchmen TV series to HBO. Lindelof picked up the mantle in June of 2017 and filmed a pilot earlier this year. The network is now moving forward and we could see the premiere as early as next year.

Smart most recently co-starred in Noah Hawley's trippy X-Men adjacent seriesLegionon FX. She also starred in the second season of Hawley's Fargo anthology series. Her film credits include Life, Itself, A Simple Favorand Brampton's Own.
