Read below to find out, and to get the scoop on Season 4, his high-flying new movie and if he'll ever follow in Joey Fatone and Lance Bass' footsteps on Dancing with the Stars.
TVGuide.com: Are you ready for the finale?
Chasez:
I am ready. It's gonna be a good show. Aside from whoever the winning group is — they're gonna get to do their championship performance — we're bringing the entire cast back from Season 3 and we're pairing some of the groups up together to put on some performances.
TVGuide.com: Who do you want to win?
Chasez:
You know, it's not really my place to say who should win because I think both of these groups are really, really talented. I think America got it right as far as who should be in the top 2 this season and either one deserves to win.
TVGuide.com: It seems like Beat Freaks were more consistent over the whole season, but Quest Crew really stepped it up over the past few weeks.
Chasez:
You would say consistent, but [Beat Freaks] didn't show up at the last show. I don't think Quest Crew had too many bad shows — they might've missed a step in one show, but it was in the middle of the season and Beat Freaks missed their one show at the end of the season. So I'd really put them on an even playing field. It's just a matter of what was the most memorable.
TVGuide.com: What's more important: consistency in the middle of the season, or stepping up at the end?
Chasez:
You know, I dunno. [Laughs] I always like to leave a lasting impression. I think the last thing that people see is usually the thing that's closest in their minds. With that being said, I feel like Beat Freaks had some really memorable performances with the magic special that we did and when they were robots. They might also have a bit of an advantage because we haven't seen a girl group win and this group, out of any girl group we've seen on the show so far, definitely deserves to win.
TVGuide.com: Have you heard from fans about who they want to win?
Chasez:
It all depends on who you ask. I asked one person and he was like, "I love the Beat Freaks. I love the robot thing." Then I spoke to somebody two days ago and he was like, "Dude, I wanna get 'Quest' tattooed on my chest!" [Laughs] I was like, "Uh ...alright, sure." ... Quest Crew was freakishly good that last show. They were playing in the fourth quarter and throwing touchdowns. The hip-hop decathlon was amazing.
TVGuide.com: Is there going to be a Season 4?
Chasez:
I think we're gonna find that out [tonight]. I hope so. Everything's last minute. When you're working on a show, you're not really concentrating on the next season. You still have to finish the one you're doing. I think Season 1 and Season 2 [aired back-to-back] too quickly, but it's really up to MTV and what the audience wants.
TVGuide.com: But you're keeping busy. You shot a movie, Kerosene Cowboys, in Russia, right?
Chasez:
Yup. I shot part of it in Russia and part of it in Nevada. It was great fun. It was a challenge. The travel for one was a challenge.
TVGuide.com: But you've toured the world.
Chasez:
[Laughs] Yeah, but flying to Russia twice a week is tough. I would have to fly there, work for four days, fly back, work on Dance Crew for one or two days, fly back to Russia. And that's a 24-hour trip. So it's a lot of flying!
TVGuide.com: And you play a pilot.
Chasez:
Yeah! [Laughs] I play a fighter pilot. I'm not sitting in the back sweeping; I'm in a cockpit with all the adrenaline and shooting the bad guys down. I would say we haven't seen a good fighter pilot movie in a few years. I think it's a fresh idea now. The modern technology to show some of these aerial shots and some of the ways you can shoot it now — we're gonna be able to show and do things that haven't been done before. We were shooting on a base no American had set foot on before. It was a wonderful experience.
TVGuide.com: Is "Space Cowboys" going to be on the soundtrack?
Chasez:
[Laughs] No, no, no. That's an old tune now! We gotta do something new.
TVGuide.com: The song's coming up on 10 years. You can do an anniversary update — "Kerosene Cowboys."
Chasez:
[Laughs] Nah. This animal would live and breathe on its own. I'm not looking to remake anything to do this.
TVGuide.com: Are you planning on acting more? You've guested on a few shows already.
Chasez:
I think it's just gotta be the right project. Whatever I find inspiring, I'll become passionate about and I'll work hard to do my best.
TVGuide.com: And you're still writing music?
Chasez:
Yeah, I'm always writing tunes. I have been in the studio. I'm actually working with some newer artists now for some different labels. I would say there will be some releases [by other artists] this year that I will have worked on.
TVGuide.com: I half-expected you to be in the Dancing with the Stars cast this season, just to keep up with the trend. Would you ever do it?
Chasez:
[Laughs] No. That experience was for those guys. I'm not trying to remake someone else's experience. And I think we've seen enough of the 'N Sync guys on there. [Laughs] Been there, done that! We're not all gonna go on there. That's ridiculous!
