James Farentino, best known for his roles inThe Final Countdown, Dynasty, and for playing George Clooney's estranged father, Ray Ross, on ER, has died of heart failure at a Los Angeles hospital, The Associated Press reports. He was 73.
In 1967, the Brooklyn-born actor's performance in the comedy The Pad and How to Use It landed him a Golden Globe for Most Promising Newcomer. He also starred in Melrose Place and the miniseries Jesus of Nazareth, for which he earned an Emmy nomination in 1978.

Farentino was divorced four times, and made headlines for his tumultuous relationship with on-again-off-again girlfriend Tina Sinatra, the youngest daughter of the late Frank Sinatra. In 1994 he pleaded no contest to 24 misdemeanor counts of stalking, making harassing phone calls and violating a restraining order.Farentino is survived by two sons, David and Saverio.
