Jaden Smith to Play Young Kanye West in Bonkers Showtime Pilot

Omniverse almost certainly won't actually happen, but wow

BRO. BRO! BROOOO. The Hollywood Reporter has broken some extraordinarily weird news that has us questioning whether our eyes are real: Jaden Smith is in talks to play an alternate-universe version of young Kanye West in a limited half-hour anthology series for Showtime called Omniverse. The Yeezy-produced series would be about "examining the many doors of perception."

That's a lot to process, we know. Our brains are doing this right now:

The galaxy-brained limited series would be produced by West, super-manager Scooter Braun's SB Projects, Westbrook Studios, and Silicon Valley writer Lee Sung Jin, who has been commissioned to write a pilot script. That's all the information available so far.

We're going to predict that in our reality, this show doesn't actually happen. The mercurial West has announced and abandoned dozens of projects throughout his career (remember the Jetsons movie?) and this is even weirder and requires more follow-through than some of the projects that never came to fruition. But it's fun to imagine what it might be. Would it be like Waking Life but with Jaden Smith wandering around Chicago talking about decalcifying his pineal gland?

This will actually be Kanye's third TV pilot. He did two in 2007: a Curb Your Enthusiasm-style sitcom for HBO, and a puppet-based sketch show for Comedy Central called Alligator Boots. Pilots were actually shot for those. We'll see if Omniverse gets that far. But if Kanye West and Jaden Smith want to go on Instagram Live and talk about life, we would watch the hell out of that.
