Get a Double Dose of Ikki with MTV's Bisexual Twins

After Tila Tequila declined to take a third shot at love on MTV, The Ikki Twins — aka bisexual twins Rikki and Vikki Mongeon — double up in her place to try their luck in the romance department in A Double Shot at Love (Tuesdays, 10 pm/ET). And double the gals mean double the fun, jealousy and drama — one eliminated girl revealed she is actually straight last week. TVGuide.com caught up with the sisters, who are former Hooters girls and have posed in Playboy, to get the lowdown on their bi-curious ways, how they settle mutual crushes (dibs!) and how the show affected their relationship.
TVGuide.com: How did you get involved with the show? Did MTV approach you?
Rikki: We were always big fans of the show and before we even knew that Tila wasn't gonna do a third season, I actually sent an e-mail to MTV in hopes that they would read it, but they never did! But it just so happens that they were doing auditions and our manager got us an audition with the audition team, and I guessed they loved us and sent us over to MTV and they liked us too, so history was being made?
TVGuide.com: Did you both want to do it, or did one of you need convincing?
Rikki: No. It was awesome because it was the first time in a really long time that we both were single and we both had been single for a while, so it wasn't like we were just coming out of a relationship. With Vikki, she never gets along with people that I date, so I figured this would be great because you could actually meet them, hang out with them, and if you don't like them, then it's probably a good way for me to tell them "goodbye" because in the past it's always been really hard because I had to choose between her and the person I was dating.
Vikki: The only thing we were hesitant about going into it was how our family was gonna react. Before we even did the audition, we just asked them if it was cool because our little brother and sister are still in high school and we didn't want to make them any targets for criticism or abuse from their schoolmates, so we asked them first, and they were like, "Yeah, of course, whatever makes you happy. We'll support you."
TVGuide.com: Just to clarify — you're each going to choose a person?
Rikki: Yes, we're both looking for our own individual love.
Vikki: We're not gonna share!
TVGuide.com: Did you talk about what you would do if you liked the same person?
Vikki: We didn't even think about that as a possibility in the beginning because it's not something that's ever happened to us before. We usually call "dibs." But after you start eliminating and there's less and less people left, you are 100 percent aware of the fact that you can both fall for the same people, and that's when Rikki and I decided we weren't gonna talk about our feelings about the individual people anymore.
Rikki: [That] was really weird because we always talk about those kinds of things. But this situation, we kinda had to keep to ourselves in order to keep everything open. We took everybody in the house in the beginning and we said, "Guys, we don't want you to feel bad for dating both of us, we don't want you to pick which one you like better. We just want you to keep an open mind, just like we are."
TVGuide.com: What do you each look for in a boyfriend or girlfriend?
Rikki: I like artistic, creative, outgoing, somebody that likes to be the center of attention, isn't scared of a lot of people because I like to be around a lot of people, and obviously someone who can get along with my sister because in the past, that's been really hard for me to find. ...As far as looks go, someone that takes care of themselves, they don't have to be all buff or anything, and close to their family.
Vikki: I like people who are true to who they are, aren't afraid of what other people think of them, can go around and dance and laugh and be silly — you know, not be afraid of people judging them. And also, someone that's honest, trustworthy, that's number one, because I've had a lot of problems with not-so trustworthy people in the past. Looks-wise, someone who takes care of themselves, but I don't really have a type. I look for the good in everybody.
TVGuide.com: Have you ever fought over or dated the same person?
Vikki: In middle school — even younger — for some weird reason, I used to kiss Rikki's ex-boyfriends and stuff. I don't know why! [Laughs] It's really messed up! She would get really mad at me. When we were even younger, we had a crush on the same person, and actually, our parents took us out of that school because it was getting really bad! But we grew up and realized that [being] twins and friends are more important than boys or girls. They aren't gonna be there forever. That's why we started doing the whole "dibs" thing, but unfortunately Rikki is the "dibs" queen and calls "dibs" on everybody! [Laughs] It's just better to not fight with your sister.
TVGuide.com: Rikki — you realized you were bisexual first?
Rikki: I didn't really know what I was. I was really young. I just knew that I liked girls as much as I liked guys, so I didn't know what I was. My mom caught me kissing one of my girlfriends, and I kinda felt ashamed, and she didn't make me feel ashamed, but I felt like it was something wrong that I was doing. So for a while, middle school and high school, when we had sleepovers, I always felt really uncomfortable because I was worried [the girls would] think I liked them, or it would make me like them. ...Right at the beginning of college, Vikki went to spring break and I found out that she had kissed a girl. Vikki's more of the free-spirited one. When I found out she had, I didn't feel so weird anymore, and we talked about it then.
Vikki: I knew I liked girls by that time. Not only that, but the reason Rikki got caught was because I was watching her and our friend make out, and she told me to get them a blanket. So I went to ask our mom for a blanket and my mom asked why I needed a blanket, and I was like, "Well Rikki and this girl are in the back of the truck making out and it's not comfortable, so they need blankets." And she was like, "What?! What is she doing in the back of the truck?" I was like, "Oops. Nothing!" [Laughs]
TVGuide.com: On the first episode, one girl [Angela] said she was straight when you eliminated her. Was she really straight or did she just say that to piss you off because she got axed?
Rikki: It was so weird because in one of her interviews [on the show], she said she's always liked girls, blah, blah, blah. And then she said that. So I dunno.
TVGudie.com: You haven't talked to her since the show ended?
Rikki: No, no, no. I actually don't want to talk to her at all. Even if she was just saying that because she was hurt I dismissed her, like, that's just rude. I wasn't mean to her. I said I tried, but didn't feel a connection, and there wasn't anything there. But maybe there wasn't anything there because she actually was straight and wasn't really interested in me. That was when I realized that there are people here that aren't what they seem. I thought, "Everybody here likes girls. Everybody here wants to fall in love. Everybody here's for me." With that being said, I was like, "You know what? People might be here to be on TV or for her own benefits or they're just addicted to fame." I started second-guessing my decision to come on the show because right from the beginning, I was let down. When one person lets you down, you automatically put up a guard and we looked at everybody like, "Well, she wasn't here for the right reasons, is anyone else is?" It was just weird because we never thought that could actually be going on because we thought we were all here to find love and didn't even think that.
TVGuide.com: Did the whole experience bring you closer? The trailers showed you guys arguing sometimes and shoving each other off the chairs.
Vikki: I think we probably fought more at the chair thing than we ever fought before, but at the end, it brought us closer together. We're even closer now than we've ever been. We're never, ever away from each other now. Before we had our own little outlets, now we're like a happy, little married couple!
TVGuide.com: Did you talk to Tila before the show or get any advice from her?
Vikki: No, we didn't have the opportunity to talk to her, unfortunately. It would've been nice to hear what to expect. Maybe we would've been a little bit more prepared, but I think it's good we weren't because it brought the realness out. We had no idea what to expect and just went into it with open hearts, so that was kinda good.
