Broadway star Idina Menzel will headline a Beachesremake for Lifetime.

The 1988 Garry Marshall tearjerker starred Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey as two women from very different backgrounds whose friendship survives decades of love, loss and tragedy. Midler played CC, an aspiring singer, and Hershey played Hillary, the daughter of a prominent civil rights lawyer.

According to Deadline, Menzel will take on the CC role in the Lifetime remake, which means she'll be covering the movie's iconic songs, "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "The Glory of Love." The part of Hillary has yet to be cast.

In addition to Menzel's numerous Broadway credits and voicing Elsa inFrozen, the actress has appeared on Glee, Private Practice and Rescue Me.

The announcement of a Beaches remake comes one week after Marshall died at the age of 81 from complications from pneumonia.
