Robert Hunter Biden, Vice President Joe Biden's son who is known as Hunter, has found himself with his own Ashley Madison problem. He says that the account opened with his email address does not belong to him, but was created to discredit him, Breitbart News reports.
"I am certain that the account in question is not mine," Biden said in a statement. "This account was clearly set up by someone else without my knowledge, and I first learned about the account from the media....This is unfortunately not the first time that someone has used my name and identity to try to discredit me."
Biden added that he no longer uses the email address that was linked to the account, which was last used in June 2014. Though the account is registered in the name of "Robert Biden" and lists the correct birth day and month, Feb. 4, the birth year is 10 years off — 1980 instead of the actual 1970.
"From my understanding through press accounts, it is very easy to set up an account without someone's knowledge as there is no requirement that an email address be verified, and I am certain that is what happened in this case," Biden said.
The reveal of an account tied to Biden's email address is the latest after hackers released an extensive list of users of Ashley Madison's website, which connects individuals looking for extramarital affairs.
Both Biden's email and Twitter account have previously been compromised, a source told People, and last year a fake company was registered in the U.K. under the name Hunter Biden.
"Unfortunately, there's a pattern of this that Hunter's been dealing with on a case-by-case basis. But he's a private citizen and wishes the hassle didn't also have to be news," the source said.
