It has felt like forever since Humans last graced our screens. In reality, it's only been one year, but isn't that kind of like forever in internet time? Then again, for an A.I., one year may seem like nothing at all... Either way, the critically acclaimed AMC drama is finally back for Season 3 on Tuesday, June 5, and we have an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at what you can expect!

Picking up one year after all Synths gained consciousness, Season 3 will find the newly-awakened population fighting to survive in an increasingly polarized Britain, with humans and Synths struggling to broker peace. But as the Synth community begins to fracture, tensions will escalate across the eight-episode season, which aims to be the most ambitious installment yet.

"It's been really amazing that we ended Season 2 on this huge, epic set piece and then we're starting this season with probably an even bigger set piece and stunts and explosions and so on," Emily Berrington says in the video above. "I feel like they're trying to top season 2 already."

Forget Westworld, Humans Is the Robot Show You Should Be Watching

With so many newly conscious Synths, it should come as no surprise that this season will also see a swarm of new characters brought into the fold. Among the new actors is Catastrophe's Mark Bonnar, who joins in a series regular role as Neil Somer, a charming scientist who grows close to Laura (Katherine Parkinson).

Although the influx of new characters each season keeps things on Humans perennially fresh, Gemma Chan jokes that the new cast members also raise the stakes for the stars on set. "I think each year it's been the nuisance of always slightly showed up, the old class, because [the new actors] come along and they're really good," Chan says.
