Hope Solo Arrested for Domestic Violence

Professional soccer star and Olympics gold medalist Hope Solo was arrested for assault, the Kirkland, Wa police tell the Seattle Times.

Early Saturday morning, Kirkland PD responded to a 911 call reporting that a female at a local residence was hitting people and wouldn't stop. Officers arrived on the scene and after taking statements and observing injuries on Solo's sister and 17-year-old nephew, Solo was arrested on two counts of domestic violence assault. The 32-year-old was booked and will have a mandatory court appearance on Monday.

Solo's team, the Seattle Reign FC, released a statement saying, "We are aware of the situation regarding Hope Solo and are currently gathering information. We have no further comments at this time." The U.S. Soccer league also released a statement, saying, "We are aware of the situation. At this point, we don't have any further comments."

Solo previously released a memoir accusing her Dancing with the Stars partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy of being physically aggressive. "He manhandled me in rehearsals from the start, pushing me, whacking my stomach, bending my arms roughly," she wrote. "One day, Maks was trying to put me in a certain position and hit my stomach so hard with his open palm that I had a red handprint there for the rest of the day." A few months later, Solo's now husband, NFL player Jerramy Stevens, was arrested for allegedly assaulting her in their home. They got married the next day.
