The opening credits capture the SundanceTV series' swampy noir atmosphere
Hap and Leonard premieres March 2 on SundanceTV. Based on the novels by Joe R. Lansdale -- the first season corresponds to the first Hap & Leonard novel, Savage Season -- the show stars James Purefoy as Hap, a Texas good ol' boy/conscientious objector, and Michael Kenneth Williams as Leonard, a gay Vietnam vet. They're buddies who get roped in to a plot to pull a car with a trunk full of cash from the bottom of a river.
The show takes place in East Texas in the late '80s, and it has a lurid, pulpy film noir energy. The animated title sequence captures it perfectly, with mysterious twangy music and neon-lit images of long legs going up to a pair of Daisy Dukes and distrustful eyes in a rearview mirror.
