Heather Locklear Arrested After Hit-and-Run, Police Say

Heather Locklear was arrested following a hit-and-run accident last week near her gated-community home, but her lawyer tells TVGuide.com it was unclear who was driving her car.

The actress' car hit a no-parking sign on a public street in California's Ventura County early Saturday morning, and the driver left the scene without notifying officials, sheriff's spokesman Ross Bonfiglio told TVGuide.com. Sheriff's officials traced debris left at the collision to Locklear's black BMW, and she was cited with a misdemeanor hit-and-run.

Bonfiglio said it appeared the car went up on a curb and hit the sign.

"There's evidence we believe she was driving," said Bonfiglio. "We feel it was clearly her car and some other factors have led us to believe she was driving the car."

The Melrose Place  star's attorney urged against jumping to conclusions.

"The matter is still being looked into as it is not yet clear who was driving the vehicle," attorney Blair Berk said in a statement.

Though Locklear was arrested, she was not taken into custody because the charge is a misdemeanor.

Locklear is serving a three-year probation term after pleading no contest to reckless driving following 2008 DUI charges.
